A milestone is a part of the escrow with its own amount. A one-off sale is a single milestone. A website build might be design, build and launch; a property purchase might be deposit, documents and keys. The buyer pays the full amount up front. Each milestone is then delivered and released on its own, so the seller is paid as the work progresses and the buyer only releases what they have received.

Rules

  • Milestone amounts must add up to amount, or the request fails with milestones_total_mismatch.
  • Up to 20 milestones per escrow. Leave milestones out for one milestone covering the whole amount.
  • Once the buyer pays, the plan is fixed: amounts and milestones can’t change.
  • Milestones go in order. Only the current one can be delivered or released (milestone_not_current otherwise).

Each milestone’s life

You get milestone.delivered and milestone.released for each one, and escrow.completed after the last.

Fees and commission per milestone

Fees and your commission are worked out on the whole escrow, and each release carries its share. fees on the session and escrow shows the totals; each milestone shows its own payout. See Fees.
